Play. Connect. Grow. Through Music.

A woman with dark hair, wearing a dark polo shirt with a logo that says 'Music &' and 'Music Therapy', stands in front of a colorful painting of abstract trees. She is playing an acoustic guitar and smiling. Behind her, there is a black leather sofa with decorative pillows, including a blue textured pillow, in a room with a patterned rug.

Music & Me

Music & Me is an early childhood music program based in Geelong, Victoria. Grounded in music therapy and early childhood research, Music & Me sessions support the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF) through inclusive, play-based musical experiences that promote children's wellbeing, learning, communication, confidence and connection.

Music & Me supports young children to connect, grow and play through music, while working collaboratively with educators to foster participation and support meaningful outcomes for all children.

What happens in a Music & Me session?

Music & Me is developed and facilitated by a Registered Music Therapist. A key feature of Music & Me is the use of live music-making using voice and guitar, which allows each session to be responsive to the children in the room. The pace, tempo, volume and musical content can be adapted in the moment to follow children’s interests, support regulation and encourage participation. Children become active participants in the program through shared musical experiences that promote engagement, inclusion and a sense of belonging.

Each session includes:

  • Hello song

  • Familiar nursery rhymes and action songs

  • Instrumental play and musical games

  • Movement and dancing

  • Relaxation and calming songs

  • Goodbye song

All musical instruments and creative resources are provided for the children to use throughout the session.

Program options:

  • Programs are available as one-off workshops or weekly programs across the term

  • We can work with the whole kindergarten group or in smaller groups tailored to the individual needs of children

  • Sessions usually run for 50 minutes; however, shorter sessions are available if we are running multiple sessions at the same centre

Additional program options may be available. Please get in touch to explore how Music & Me would work best in your setting.

Collaboration with educators

Music & Me is a collaborative program that works best with active involvement from educators in early childhood settings, including kindergartens and childcare centres. Educator participation and engagement throughout the session is essential to support children's connection, participation and inclusion in the program.

Educators can support the children’s participation by:

  • providing a safe and appropriate space for sessions

  • positive modelling and supporting children’s emotional regulation and behaviour

  • ensuring children remain supervised by educators throughout the session

  • communicating relevant information regarding children’s support needs, risks or wellbeing concerns

As part of the program, educators and families will receive practical resources outlining simple ways to incorporate music into everyday moments at home and in early learning environments.
